Merlin

I want to tell you about Merlin, even though I usually omit long winded descriptions or stories with my perfumes. Merlin was not a corvid, but as I was working on this collection, I found myself thinking about him and decided to make a perfume in his honor here. Merlin was a robin that my mom rescued as a baby from a nest whose tree had been cut down to make space for an office building next to where my mom worked. Loads of nests had been cut down, so many birds died. It was awful. My mom rescued this little baby robin and took him home and did her damnedest to feed him. No rescues would take him and, by law, she was not supposed to be doing what she was doing. But sometimes we break rules because not breaking them is unbearable. I've done it, too. It runs in the family. She would take him to work with her to make sure he got all the meals he needed. That little bird survived somehow. She knew she could not release him, so he lived with her for several years. She got him the biggest cage she could, but she would also let him loose in her bathroom for freedom, too. Merlin would land on the toilet paper roll and run on it. He would unravel the entire roll! And he would also sit on the towel bar and poop on her clean towels. His poops were purple because one of the things he loved to eat were blueberries. So my mom's nice clean white towels would have purple bird poop on them. I guess in some ways, I'm admitting I made a perfume inspired by bird poop. There's a first for everything. Merlin was special and I'm glad I have this story to share with you via perfume.
